The title industry is often perceived as an intricate web of regulations, underwriting, and closings. But to Mary O’Donnell, it’s so much more. It’s a platform to drive change and make a difference. As the founder and president of the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation (AGDF) and CEO of Westcor Land Title Insurance Company, Mary has transformed that belief into impactful action.

This blog takes a closer look at how Mary’s leadership and Westcor’s dedication have helped the AGDF uplift communities nationwide. We’ll explore the milestones achieved over the past four years, highlight the real-world impact of AGDF’s grants, and celebrate the title industry’s collective commitment to philanthropy.

How the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation Began

The ALTA Good Deeds Foundation was created in 2020 with a simple but powerful mission— supporting local communities and causes through grants. At its core, the foundation extends the values that title professionals uphold every day—protection, trust, and care for communities. Spearheaded by Mary O’Donnell, the foundation’s rapid success can be attributed to her visionary leadership and her company’s unwavering dedication to giving back.

Westcor, the nation’s #1 independent title insurance underwriter, has always been deeply
rooted in community efforts through its Westcor Gives initiative. From supporting local schools to championing hurricane relief efforts, Westcor has shown that title agents can go beyond real estate and make a tangible difference.

2024 Highlights of the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation

This past year alone, the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation achieved remarkable milestones that underscore the power of collective philanthropy within the title industry.

$330,484 Raised: AGDF received generous support from 54 companies and 249 individuals who share Mary’s passion for uplifting communities.
$278,000 in Grants Awarded: These grants were distributed to 46 nonprofits across 45 states and DC. They supported initiatives ranging from emergency relief to housing assistance.
Emergency Relief: Following devastating Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the foundation sprang into action, awarding $21,000 in emergency grants to deliver immediate aid where it was most needed.
First-Time Homebuyer Support: One of the standout initiatives was empowering first- time homebuyers to achieve their dream of homeownership—a cause that resonates deeply within the title industry.

Each grant is more than just a dollar amount. It represents actionable steps towards building stronger, more resilient communities.

Reaching $1 Million in Giving

Here’s even more reason to celebrate—2024 marked a significant milestone for the AGDF as it crossed $1 million in total giving since its inception just four years ago. To date, the foundation has supported 193 organizations across the country, directly impacting local causes from disaster relief to homelessness prevention. Organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the Ronald McDonald House, and mental health groups have received funding, amplifying their ability to change lives.

This achievement is a testament to the generosity of title agents, the resourcefulness of Mary
O’Donnell, and the dedication of companies like Westcor. It’s proof that many small individual acts of giving can add up to life-changing outcomes.

The Power of Mary O’Donnell’s Leadership

Mary O’Donnell’s leadership is at the heart of AGDF’s success. Her unwavering belief that businesses should act as agents of change has inspired others within the title industry to do the same. She often emphasizes the ripple effect of giving, saying, “When we support our communities, we’re not just helping individuals, we’re fostering stronger, more vibrant neighborhoods—and that benefits everyone.”

Through her dual roles as both CEO of Westcor and president of AGDF, Mary exemplifies how
business leaders can blend entrepreneurial drive with a philanthropic mindset. Her efforts have set a shining example for others in the title industry, fostering a culture of purpose and service.
